Columbia-Based Consultancy Firm Selected to Present at Leading Industry Conference
 

Columbia, S.C., Feb. 25, 2009 – The Weathers Group, a business consultancy firm based in Columbia, has been selected for the sixth consecutive year to present at the South Carolina Association of Nonprofit Organizations (SCANPO) annual conference. This leading industry event attracts executives from nonprofit agencies, foundations, faith-based organizations, and private sector corporations throughout the state. The two‐day event will be held March 10-11, 2010, and will feature sessions focused on the conference theme, “Navigating in a Sea of Change.”

Charles C. Weathers Sr., president of The Weathers Group, will moderate a panel discussion titled: Lessons from the Field: Effective Ways to Partner with Faith-Based Organizations,”on Wednesday, March 10, from 3:45-5:15 p.m. Community leaders will discuss: how the current economic climate impacts community and faith-based organizations; collaborations, partnerships, and alliances; best practices; and federal initiatives from a South Carolina perspective. The panelists are: Emily Bugay, executive director of Family Promise of Beaufort County; Kristi King-Brock, executive director, Anderson Interfaith Ministries; Michele Cardwell, rural development specialist, USDA Rural Development; and Reverend Dr. Charles Heyward, pastor of Saint James Presbyterian Church in Charleston, S.C.

Weathers, an ordained pastor, brings to the discussion more than 20 years of experience with nonprofit and faith-based organizations. “My goal is to facilitate an interactive dialogue about ways to recognize community assets to advance common causes; more effectively identify and establish leadership within local communities; and forge policies and processes that enhance relationships with community and faith-based organizations,” said Weathers. “Improving your organization’s performance should be an ongoing process. In a rapidly changing world, this requires a commitment to professional development and instruction from experienced advisors. We applaud SCANPO for demonstrating this commitment for more than a decade.”

SC First Steps and The Weathers Group Collaborate to Increase Grassroots Organizational Capacity

10/23/06  -  A collaborative effort has been launched to increase the capacity of grassroots organizations to apply for program funding. The SC Office of First Steps is strategically investing monies in four counties to support youth programs. To ensure that organizations are equipped to submit competitive applications, the local First Steps offices in each participating county will host a grant application informational session facilitated by The Weathers Group. “This is a significant message being sent to all stakeholders in the nonprofit sector. We must do all we can to empower and equip grassroots organizations to be competitive, competent, and compliant. This is going a step beyond inviting organizations to the proverbial table – now we’re actually giving them a menu and serving them.” said Charles Weathers, company President. The counties chosen for this round of grants include; Dillon, Marlboro, Hampton, and Jasper. 

 
TWG Selected as Pillar Award Finalist

The Weathers Group (TWG) was recently selected as one of three finalist for The Small Enterprise Award by the Information Technology Council of the Greater Columbia Chamber of Commerce. This honor recognizes a small business entity (organizations with fewer than 50 full-time employees or less than $20 million in revenue) for their innovative application or development of a technology-based product, process or service. TWG is a management consulting firm that provides leadership development, project management and strategic planning services throughout the southeastern region. Based in Columbia, South Carolina, the firm is housed at the USC-Columbia Technology Incubator.

 
TWG Staff Obtain Mediation Certification

Community mediation is designed to strengthening relationships and building connections between people and groups, and to create processes that make communities work for everyone.  Anita Garrett recently completed 24hours of training to enhance skills that will aid in her work as a community mediator.  Working as educators and community liaisons with both public and private-sector clients,” states Anita Garrett, Vice President of TWG, “we've found that one of the most important secrets to our success has been our ability to be 'multi-lingual' and share information in a manner that can transcend sector, profession, ethnicity or geography. In order to truly build capacity, mediation skills allow us to help others find their own voices.”
